HGV Class 1 Driver – Aston, Birmingham

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a HGV Class 1 Driver to join our well-established client based in Aston, Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a brand-new transport operation offering excellent rates of pay, guaranteed ongoing work, a permanent contract after just 13 weeks, and a confirmed pay increase from October 2026. With fixed routes, a modern fleet and consistent shifts, this is the ideal role for drivers looking for long-term stability and career progression.

This role will suit applicants who have experience working as an LGV Class 1 Driver, Category C+E Driver or Articulated Lorry Driver.

Rates of Pay:

• Days – £16.97 per hour
• Overtime – £22.57 per hour
• Nights – £22.63 per hour

Shift Pattern:

Day Routes

• Monday to Friday
• Start times between 03:00 – 06:00
• 8–11-hour shifts
• Temperature-controlled trunking between distribution hubs
• Unloading using a pump truck and tail lift
• Saturday overtime available (05:00 start – finish by midday)

Night Routes

• Monday to Friday
• Start times between 16:00 – 17:00
• 8–11-hour shifts
• Dock loading at 2–3 distribution hubs
• Required to work 1 in every 4 Sundays

Day-to-Day Duties:

Your duties as a HGV Class 1 Driver are:

• Safely and efficiently operating Category C+E vehicles
• Completing temperature-controlled trunking routes between distribution centres
• Loading and unloading using pump trucks and tail lifts where required
• Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks and reporting defects
• Completing delivery paperwork accurately
• Complying with Drivers’ Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive requirements
• Following all company health and safety procedures
• Delivering a professional service at all times

Essential Skills:

To be successful as a HGV Class 1 Driver, you will need:

• A valid UK Category C+E Licence
• A valid Driver CPC qualification
• A valid Digital Tachograph Card
• A minimum of 12 months’ recent Category C+E driving experience
• A good understanding of Drivers’ Hours legislation
• A reliable, professional and safety-focused approach to work

Training:

• Fully paid two-week induction programme
• Classroom-based training and buddy support
• Short theory assessment covering road safety and hazards
• Approximately 30-minute practical driving assessment
• Ongoing training and support throughout your assignment
• Industry-related training provided
• Ongoing support throughout
